Google releases Disavowal Tool

Matt Cutts, head of Google’s web spam team announced at #Pubcom on Wednesday that Google has released a new tool to remove back links pointed to your website. This is the best spam reporting tool that Google has ever released.

The tool has been beta tested by a select few SEO’s over the past few weeks. Matt Cutts stated that webmasters should try to remove links manually warned that the tool should not be used unless it is absolutely necessary.

This tool was designed primarily for the sites that were hit in the Penguin update. This will allow webmasters to remove purchased links and links that point to their site from blog networks and link farms.

This is what Google says about the tool. “If you believe your site’s ranking is being harmed by low-quality links you do not control, you can ask Google not to take them into account when assessing your site”.

The tool can be found here.

Matt Cutts has created a 10 minute video discussing the new tool.
